Family and Law

This course will examine the social institution of the family in Canada within a legal framework. Students will examine the impact of social changes in class, gender, sexual orientation, race, and ethnicity on the legal regulation of the family. Topics may include the relationship of the law to shifting definitions of family and cohabitation, child access and custody, child protection laws, distribution of property and power, and violence. Prerequisite: Registration Status: Senior student.
